Well known as the spice that gives curry its distinctive yellow colour, turmeric has also been long prized in Asia for its medicinal properties. Various studies have shown that turmeric acts as a natural anti-inflammatory and antiseptic. The key to turmeric’s beneficial properties is the chemical compound curcumin. To increase the absorption of
curcumin, add some black pepper. Fats also increase the bioavailability of curcumin.
Add to scrambled or fried eggs, rice, soups, roasted vegetables and smoothies. Simmer a teaspoonful with milk and honey to make a gold-tinged tea.
